Since I understand you're taking requests for new features, here's one I think MIGHT be fairly simple to accomplish (unless it's already there and I just can't figure out how to do it):
It would be extremely helpful if we were allowed to have folders to contain multiple events, similar to in iMovie or Aperture. For example, I have a separate event for each of the vacations I took in 2005. It would really clean the interface up if I were allowed to create a folder called "2005" and place my different vacations ("France", "Italy", "Australia", "British Virgin Islands", etc. in it). That might prevent the side issue of multiple events with the same name, say, if I took a vacation to Canada in 2005 and 2009. Folders, being solely hierarchical, I would think could be implemented fairly easily. Of course, in programming, "easy" is a relative term, right?!
Importing different files into different places
I have both a avchd camera and an iPhone. I'd love to be able to put the Camera raw content in one place and the .mov files from the iPhone in another.
I'll also second the suggestions of having a date based file system directory structure for imported files which is how I do my Lightroom photo files as well as having Flamingo ignore jpg's.
Importing
We have the date-based folder structure in development now, so it shouldn't be too long before being released.
We have the file type filtering logged as a feature request.
I'm not really sure what you mean by putting Camera raw content in one place and MOV files in another. FlamingoHD has one library area and each import goes into its own Event.
bob-deinterlacing
Can someone explain to me why even in proffesional software there is no option for bob-deinterlacing?
(filling in the gaps by interpolation to keep the original frame (field)-rate?
I have tons of PAL-DV handycam tapes, and DO NOT WANT to throw away half the framerate and store it at 25p
no sir, i want to store the 50i (PAL) at either (best option) 50p or second best: 50i
does SOMEONE understand WHAT i'm talking about?
I'm planning to buy a Casio Exilim EX-F1 Pro which takes 60i full HD resolution,
and found your site as your software has the camera in it's compatibility list.
I'm excited as i'd not hesitate to buy your sofware IF i could export the 60i.mov files to 60p in any h264 format
and hoping ofcourse your software can compress the IMA-ADPCM (stereo) audio to something more conveniently compressed like ac3 or AAC or mp3.
Please reply to me, I'm not trying to sound degrading, flame or whatever, it's just that i've been busy trying finding a solution for a 'one stop' software to handle bob-deinterlacing of video files.
(I know via avisynth it's possible, but i really hate to 'pragram' a .avs file everytime i want to convert something.)
How to Delete files?
Is there a way to delete the media files that I don't wish to keep (not just from FlamingoHD, but from the Mac itself)?
Convert to .mp4 format?
Not sure how difficult it would be but it would be nice if you convert files into .mp4
Reveal in Finder feature request
Also, an option to "Reveal in Finder" would be quite useful. Thanks!
Another feature request
Also, I can't figure a way to manipulate the order of my events. I'm assuming they're listed in order of creation, as they're definitely not alphabetical. I can't seem to drag-and-drop the order, either. I would like 2008 to come before 2009, for instance. I don't mind having to do this manually, but I would love being allowed to at least change the display order somehow! Thanks...
Folder management
Hi there,
we're onto this right now :) We are currently building an Event and Project management function where you have complete control over the ordering and folders. This will be called 'User Defined' folders.
We will also be updating the date-based Event and Project treeview behaviour to include year-based folders, if you need them.
If you could help out as a beta tester we would appreciate that.
I'd be happy to help you beta
I'd be happy to help you beta test your software. My programming experience is limited to web-based languages (primarily PHP and MySQL), but I do have some long-time-ago exposure to C and Fortran, so I understand the concepts at least. Plus, I love Australia! My wife and I visited for a few weeks back in 2007. It's hard to name a favorite, as we loved the Blue Mountains, the Whitsundays, and the Barossa Valley. I'd have to crown Kangaroo Island as the neatest, though...
id be happy to test with beta that has folder reordering!
id be happy to test with beta that has folder/event/project reordering. also there needs to be a verification check to see if the media still exists.
option to relink video in flamingo if it exisis on hard drive but unavailable.
i was trying to reorder manually myself and accidentally imported multiple times. i some how moved videos from two different imports then deleted the original events they were imported into. it seems that deletes the whole event folder even if the original videos have been moved out of it. or they show unavailable but are really on the hard drive when i reveal in finder.
i have not lost any data because i have yet to delete any footage off the camera.
Beta test
Thanks - we'll let you know when we've got the Beta ready.
When we test the re-ordering we will double check all the event management as well.
