I notice the FAQ states the conversion time to be about 12 times the length of the clip(s) being converted. I use Final Cut Express. I find that the Log and Transfer function which imports by AVCHD -> AIC seems to run much faster than 12:1. Are there trade offs either way to consider?
Some background if I may as a newbie to ShedWorx apps. With my AVCHD camcorder capturing to 16GB SDHC cards, before ever loading them anywhere I first create a Disk Image with Disk Utility. So I have a high number of DMGs that are archived and backed up. I became interested in ShedWorx apps more as a method to have visual access, quickly, to my entire clips library. Flamingo fits this nicely. Having an Intel Macbook Pro I don't find a need to convert.
So I have a more philosophical question about my overall work flow. Should I just use Flamingo to have easy, quick access to what I'm looking for, then just use Log and Transfer to capture from the appropriate dmg file since it is much faster, or are there advantages to going ahead and putting clips in Projects in Flamingo and using Send To Editor?
Thanks.

The idea with the FlamingoHD approach is that this is the place that all of your content resides, including movies and images.
FlamingoHD gives you an efficient and easy way to manage a lot of content. iMovie is inefficient (requiring storage as AIC) and content management is not a pat of Final Cut.
VoltaicHD is slower than the Apple converter simply because we focus our efforts in adding conversion features rather than improving speed. Our quality of conversion is the same as the Apple approach, just slower.
You will probably find that as you use FlamingoHD and VoltaicHD more, the speed won't be an issue. Its just a case of planning ahead a little more when sending a project to the Editor.
Another feature of the FlamingoHD/VoltaicHD bundle is its ability to do simple projects and send them to YouTube or AppleTV. I find now that with a lot of content I often just knock up a very quick project in FlamingoHD, then Send to Voltaic. In Voltaic I trim up the clips, then send to YouTube or AppleTV. No complex editor required! I still use Final Cut for my 'serious' projects, but I no longer go into iMovie or Final Cut for the quick projects.
I hope that helps.
