I think the delete clips feature is a bit dangerous. It is too easy to accidentally delete a clip, and it doesn't even end up it the trash it is gone!

Would be nice to get a warning if you accidentally have a clip selected and choose delete....Are you sure you want to delete the clip xxxx

Also it would be great if the deleted clip actually went into the trash so if you still heeded the warning and deleted there was one last shot to get the clip back.

I think I read that you were going to map the delete key for deleting clips. That could be a real problem if it is my only copy of a particular clip and I accidentally hit the delete key!

Send it to the trash, at the very least.

I will second this post from

I will second this post from tiltmedia. I was just in Flamingo, did a right-click to bring up the context menu, selected "Delete..." and Flamingo deleted the clip all right. I no longer see it in the Finder. But I also got no warning asking me to verify the deletion. Which REALLY scares me. What if I'd accidentally selected "Delete..." when I was actually meaning to select "Open" or "Reveal in Finder"?

we currently don't prompt the user when deleting "External" media. This is media that is external to the FlamingoHD library. When we delete external media from FlamingoHD, we just delete its reference from the library, we don't delete the media itself. When deleting internal media that is part of the FlamingoHD library, we prompt the user to confirm.

In regards to the statement above from Justin:
1. my clip was in the "Base Location" as I defined it in my Preferences. It wasn't the default Base Location as it was originally set when Flamingo installed, but it was in the "Base Location" as defined by me; in Preferences I set the Base Location to refer to a folder on my firewire drive that I use for video editing. That would be "Firewire-465:Movies:FlamingoHD". So in my mind my clip was part of the "internal media that is part of the FlamingoHD library".
2. Even though it was a part of the "Base Location"/"FlamingoHD library" I was NOT asked to confirm the deletion, though Justin says it should be prompting to confirm. I wasn't asked to confirm. But it was deleted.
3. It is no longer in the Finder. It wasn't just the reference from the library that was removed.
4. Flamingo did not send the deleted file to the Mac OSX trash folder, though it would normally do this if I deleted a file from the firewire drive using the Finder. (Just tested that, and yep, deleting from the firewire drive within the Finder does send to the trash folder)

So, yeah, I echo tiltmedia and must add: VERY SCARY.

One more thing: you need to call an orange and orange. I'm assuming "Base Location" and "FlamingoHD library" are the same thing. If not, then please explain how they are different. If they are the same, then don't call the "Base Location" something else; it just muddies the waters.

Deleting clips

Hi there,

OK - I agree that this should be changed. We have a bug in there at the moment that does not prompt you for deleting from the interal library. Until we implement an internal trash folder in FlamingoHD we will add back the confirmation prompt.

Good point about terminology. We will change the label on the preferences to be FlamingoHD Library Location.

Thanks

Justin

Deleteing clips

Hi Rich,

we currently don't prompt the user when deleting "External" media. This is media that is external to the FlamingoHD library. When we delete external media from FlamingoHD, we just delete its reference from the library, we don't delete the media itself.

When deleting internal media that is part of the FlamingoHD library, we prompt the user to confirm.

Does this sound OK?

We do plan to implement a Trash function in the near future also.
