I've recently purchased a Panasonic GH1 and I'm interested in the pulldown capabilities of VoltaicHD. My question is if it makes any sense to have a conversion from 1080 60i to 1080 24p removing only the extra frames but otherwise leaving the stream untouched -- i.e., not convert to WMV.
Thanks,
Phil

I've looked all over the site for this, but either it's not there or I'm missing it. The question is: will version 2.5 support 24p pulldown outputing to AVCHD without any other conversions?
24p pulldown
Version 2.5 will support AVCHD output, but we will not be modifying the video when we do that. That means 60i/24p input will still be 60i/24p in output.
Thanks for the reply. Not
Thanks for the reply. Not what I wanted to hear, however...
GH1 24p pulldown
Hi Phil,
The 24p pulldown combines 5 frames into 2 by combining 4 interlaced (i.e. half) frames into 2 progressive frames and dropping every 5th frame. This is a significant image conbination operation so the video stream is completely re-written - it is not just an exercise of removing redundant frames.
The pulldown process gives you a true 24p movie which we generally convert to WMV so that it can be edited easily.
We don't currently convert back into AVCHD (h.264 really) as most people want to edit WMV or AVI. I guess the only reason for re-encoding back to AVCHD would be to edit in a native AVCHD editor (like Sony Vegas) that doesn't support 24p itself.
Ok, that makes sense. I knew
Ok, that makes sense. I knew there was more to it than what I was thinking. Thanks.
The other reason for re-encoding back to AVCHD is to save space - the WMV or AVI files are much larger. I'm already setup to edit AVCHD so this would be of value to me. Any chance this could make it into the schedule?
Thanks again,
Phil
