Hi guys,
I've bought a licence for Voltaic to run on my PC, but I suspect I'll get a higher quality output if I run the same clips through a MacBook Pro, as (I assume) the output options are likely to be higher quality and therefore more usable.... I do NOT want to lose any quality at all though:
I wish to submit clips to a video clip library, and must find a way to convert my AVCHD files (from Panasonic GH1, 1920x1080 50i/17Mbps, 25 frames per sec) into either Photo JPEG, DVC Pro or ProRes files in order to be acceptable to them, and I don't see those options on the PC version I've just bought.
I have no desire to learn some massive editing suite, (and nor can I afford Final Cut), as I am shooting 20-30 second clips only:
1: Am I likely to get a better result if I use Voltaic on a Mac?
2: Is the programme the same, and can be loaded onto either platform?
3: If not, do I have to buy another licence and download the Mac version?
4: If that's the case, do you sell a special reduced-rate licence that'll work on both platforms?
5: Any of this make sense? I'm SO tired of looking for a solution, I just wanna get out there and get shooting, so appreciate the wonderful simplicity of Voltaic....
I am concerned about going the PC route, though, as the outputs look a bit flakey: I have Sony Vegas and Adobe PremierePro CS3, but I'd rather nor use any of them for just producing the HIGHEST poss quality cluips from my AVCHD (*.mts) files: Shortest, sweetest route, please, preferably just clip and exporting ONLY with Voltaic.... can I do that?
also, while I might have your attention, any suggestions as to when we can expect the major upgrade of the PC versiion of Voltaic?

Hi Nick,
the formats that your site is asking for are all Quicktime-friendly formats. ProRes comes with Final Cut Pro only, and Photo JPEG is a supported output format for Quicktime exporting. DVC Pro is (I think) another codec supplied with Final Cut Pro.
Voltaic does support simple editing on the Mac, and will also on the PC with version 2.5. On the Mac, you can just trim a clip and export to one of the formats you have specified.
We hope to release version 2.5 in late March, but it will definitely be available as a Beta by then.
As for licencing, we can easily transfer your licence from PC to Mac. Alternatively we can give you a 50% discount on a second copy of Voltaic.
