Is there any difference between the App Store and Shedworx versions?
Not really. The Mac App Store version of miDVD and miDVD Pro won't accept VOB files, but apart from that, they are identical.
What level of support is offered?
Shedworx offers email support 9am to 5pm weekdays (Perth, Australia timezone, which is GMT+8). We are a regular business and work 9-5, like most people. We respond to almost all support requests within 24hrs on weekdays.
Our systems all run 24x7, but we only provide support while we are at work.
Where is the miDVD Pro log file?
You can easily find the log file by choosing File->Reveal Log File from the application menu.
The log file is kept at
On OSX Lion, the Library folder is hidden by default. To display the Library folder, open a Terminal session and paste in the following text:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
My burned DVD won't play on my Mac
This is sometimes due to your Mac not being set up to auto-play a DVD that is loaded into it.
To get around this, start the DVD Player app first, then load your DVD. The DVD should start playing and display the DVD Menu.
My burned DVD won't play on my DVD Player
This can be due to the DVD region format. DVDs come in two formats - NTSC and PAL.
miDVD sets this setting automatically, but sometimes you need the other format.
To get around this, go to Preferences and set DVD Type to Always NTSC and burn the DVD again. If this does work, burn another DVD but this time with a DVD Type of PAL.
In the free version of miDVD, DVD Type can be accessed from the File Menu.
I can't drag a movie onto miDVD Pro
You can't drag movies out of other apps straight into miDVD Pro. You have to export them first.
This applies to Slideshows from iPhoto, iMovie projects, Keynote presentations and anything else that produces movie output.
Always export to an Apple format, and the resolution should be 720p.
When I watch my DVD on a DVD player, all I see is my movie with a big black border
You are looking at the DVD Menu. Click Play on your DVD player and the movie will start.
How much can I fit on a DVD?
We allow about 120 minutes of video per single layer disc. This allows us to create your DVD at the best quality settings so that it will look as good as it possibly can on a big screen HDTV.
